Top Gig at Black Dog

DCIM\100GOPRO\G0022177. Songwriters’ Festival at the Black Dog — 45‑minute set
Last night was the Songwriters’ Festival at the Black Dog, and I had a 45‑minute slot. It was a great gig — one of those nights where everything lands, and I got to perform a lot of songs that will be coming out soon:
- Teach Me Peace
- I Am a Monkey
- Riding Up That Hill
- I Had Hoped to Change That
- A Little Hope
- Famous for Love
- You Could Find It in the Moon
- Hold On to Your Dreams
- Waiting to Cross the Road
A couple of tracks are bubbling under, waiting for their debut:
- It is a Script, a Play
- How will It Look
- And of course, ‘expecting’ the working title of the new recordings
Thanks for the lovely comments, and thanks to Callum for organising a brilliant night all round.
Part 1 of the show is up already on SoundCloud with Part 2 coming soon: https://soundcloud.com/cousinlee/live-at-black-dog?si=cf9ed3eec067486bb4ad19727ae79078&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

You Could Find it in the Moon
You could find it in the moon
and you don’t know why
Your not any other
though certain mandates follow
You Could find it in the Moon, like tonight
you could go to someplace
Someplace that is quite
You could stare into space defiant
Make a wish for a lover or even for another
You Could find it in the Moon, like tonight
You could find it in the coulors
Emanating coulors
By the stars in the sky shining bright
You could find it when varity dissatisfies
Trapped in bother
head severities hovers
you could find it in anything at any time
Yes you could find that thing so sublime
You could find it in anything at any time
You could find it in the Moon, like tonight
You could find it, and you don’t know why
You are not any other
Though certain mandates follow
You could find it in the Moon, like tonight….

I am a Monkey
I am a Monkey
Doing the Monkey's Game
Selling one thing to another
Climbing up the ladder
Sliding down the Poll
Giving love and time
I am the Monkey
Playing the Monkey's game
My mind stops and ask me
What is there
Just putting food in my mouth
and trying to be honest
That faction between
What is known and what is not
I am the Monkey
Playing the Monkey's game
Talking about this and that
I am on an adventure
Someone is always thinking
That they can predict the future
Were not that special
Slowly understanding this, unless
I am the Monkey
Playing the Monkey's game

Coming soon on the new album ‘Expecting’ -
Before something happened to them
It’s a script, a play
That they write that they are thinking about
what they want
Everywhere it was sent
by the people that roam free
Before something happened to them
Tik Tok Tok Tik
Where does one stand
At this point, place and time
I ain’t brain dead, but I am not productive
had to pull the chain
become a little remote
Before something happened
Don’t want no other voice
I know this is going to be hard
I write it all again
Focus Ken it can mend
One should write
Do what you love before something happened again

How will it look
How will it look
Tomorrow when we are gone
Will it look better or worse
For what we did
How Will it look
If everything is clear
No mud to complicate it
What you noted
How will it look
If their story is not told
The other side
Will you care
Perhaps there is something more
After the store is empty
When we are hungry
and in need of comfort
How will it look
If you could see it backwards
Word the words get in the way
would love fade away
How will it look
if we don’t do anything
Let it die and rot
bury it beneath the moss covered stones
How will it look
To you and me
if you don’t love me anymore
because I made stand
Perhaps there is something more
After the store is empty
When we are hungry
and in need of comfort

Riding up that Hill
Last Year it was ‘Winter is coming’ this year it is ‘Riding up that Hill’ to be performed at the Guild
I am riding up that hill
My eyes are open wide
I can't wait to see you
The road has been so very long
I see you
MY children and loved ones
Still I am riding up that hill
I have loved you now and forever
Riding and Riding Riding
Across the country
My circle is almost complete
I want to be there today
Not sure what is understood
I Know what I know
Still I am riding up that hill
In pursuit of what i already know
Climbing up each step
my arms are open wide
Riding to see you today
I want to be there be there today

Prepping for TT
So the set list keeps getting longer — and Sam Webb’s has committed to giving us the gig on the Sunday at the beginning of TT Race Week.

-
Bring a new song into the world every week… but what a ride
Rocking it up at Sam Webb’s last night. I did a shaky first‑time performance of an old‑new song called You Can Find It in the Moon. Straight out of my Mad Hatters days, you really can’t make this stuff up. Threw in a few other tunes as well. It’s tough doing a new song every week…
In fact, I’m thinking a song has to be over 75% there before it’s worth bringing out. By that I mean a good song is only half of it, the rest is in the performance
Other songs included Teach Me Peace, (Currently very fitting) Come to the Ball, Waiting to Cross the Road.
When will Route Note publish One Track Minds?

Hold On To Your Dreams
Hold On To Your Dreams (Lyrics & Music by S Mc Hillbilly & Cousin Lee)
[Verse 1]
Hold On To Your Dreams,
For this world is not what it seems
There are drug dealers, mind stealers Petty thieves and potato peelers
So hold on to your dreams[Verse 2]
For the streets in this world can be mean,
You can get coffee without cream You could be cursed by a college dean,
There are in-betweens and sights unseen If you come clean and be a jolly old bean,
You can hold on to your dreams[Chorus/Outro]
Nobody knows what this life means,
But there sure are things in this life obscene,
There is S Mc Hillbilly & Augustus Goster going ’round singing songs absurdly silly,
So hold on to your dreams -
Choo Choo Choo Choo
One two three here I came
Five six seven eight for some more
Nine ten eleven twelve, there is no floor
American politics and law
Autumn leaves and flowers in the fall
Something that I can’t touch
I am lost and in between
I wish I was a bird swooping
choo choo choo choo
Oh you don’t understand, do you
I am all alone, far from here
I try not to frown
Still I am going down the pole
Reason things are there
choo choo choo choo
Hey, let’s stay out late
It will be just you and whoever
Aah ‘ll pick you up at nine
It is black and white, I am in line
I am lover, not a fighter
choo choo choo choo
One two three here I came
five six seven eight for some more
nine ten eleven twelve let’s go
